Tournament of Champions and All Star Schedules

Below are the current schedules for tournament play for Concord American teams.  As our teams advance in the competition, I will be posting scores and additional game dates.

International Tournament (All Stars)

Major Division - Thursday, July 19th - Alameda - 6   Concord - 2.  This game ends the season for the Major All Stars.  They got to play in the Championship game and came up just a little short of victory. The kids had their hearts in it all the way and are to be congratulated for a great run.  It is my understanding (I may be wrong so let me know) that it's been 10 years since a Concord American Major team has reached the finals.  Congratulations guys! You have shown that Concord American will be a league to deal with in the years ahead.  If anyone has any photos, please send them to me and I will be happy to post them.

Major Division - Thursday, July 5th - Concord American - 10   Lafayette  - 0   Next Game is on Saturday, July 7th at the Pittsburg National field at 10 AM.

11 Year Old Division - July 7th. On the last day of qualifying, the eleven year olds bats woke up. 16 hits against the Niles Canyon team to win 12-8. They finished with a record of 3 and 2, coming in second in their bracket to Pleasanton, who went 4-1. For all of the teams in our bracket this was their second tournament of the summer and all of the teams in the tourney were sponsored by their leagues as eleven year old All Stars. Maybe this is something we should seriously consider. Thanks to all of the kids who participated and their parents who got them where they needed to be. Alan

11 Year Old Division - July 6th.  The fellas faced another quality team in the Canyon Creek boys on Friday, ending up on the loosing end of a 7-2 game. The pitching  staff gave a strong performance, but a couple of errors and being held to 4 hits led to Concord's demise. One more scheduled game to go on Saturday to see if we  get to the finals.

11 Year Old Division - July 5th. The eleven year olds played Livermore today, July 5th. They started with a 3-1 lead in the first and won with a final score of 7-4. Lots of good competition for all of our future twelve's. All of the major division teams should benefit from the great experience this "competitive level" has to offer our young men.

11 Year Old Division - July 4th.  Skip, The eleven year olds played game #2 of the San Ramon tourney on the 4th. They played to a tie game until a home run by  Pleasanton in the 5th, which ended up being their winning hit. Final score was Pleasanton - 5   Concord  -  3.

11 Year Old Division - July 3rd.  Skip, just to keep in touch, the 11 year old team is playing in San Ramon all this week in a 24 team tourney. They came back from a 7-1 deficet in the second to win 10-9 in five innings over the Danville team. 2 hour time limit on games. 9 & 10 Year Old Division Team #2 - Friday, July 6th - On Friday, July 6, the #2 9-10 All Star Team took on Albany in a second round match. Concord's offense set the tone early by scoring 9 runs in the first inning.  The offense stayed hot in the second inning by scoring two more runs.  Brody Osborne had a double and triple is his first two at-bats.  Every member of the team contributed with a hit or by reaching base.

Brody Osborne pitched five innings.  He was very effective early in the game allowing only four runs through the first four innings.  In the fifth he struggled allowing four runs, but Concord's defense picked him up by making several great plays.  Ryan Perry had another excellent game at third base. The Concord outfielders, Michael Lord - Nick Tkachenko - Bobby Morales - Billy Bristol, each made excellent catches.

In the sixth inning Corey Galindo came on to put Albany down in order, the final out recorded on an excellent play by Ryan Perry.

Concord next plays Pinole-Hercules on Wednesday July 11 in Pinole-Hercules.

9 & 10 Year Old Division Team #2 -Tuesday, July 3rd  - Concord American #2 - 19 Martinez  - 4.
Skip,  On Tuesday the #2 team of 9-10 Allstars played their first game.  They played in Martinez against Martinez North.  The game started with Martinez jumping out to a quick 3 - 0 lead after one inning.  In the top of the second Concord came right back scoring 5 runs. The big hit was a two run scoring single by Michael Trade.  The offense for Concord stayed hot through out the rest of the game.  Billy Bristol and Corey Galindo both tripled in the game.  Every other batter in the line up found a way to reach base.  Concord went on to score 19 runs in five innings.  The starting pitcher, Andrew Gartner, settled down and only allowed one run over the next four innings.  Concord played strong defence behind Andrew with great plays turned in by Ryan Perry and Brody Osborne in the infield and Michael Lord made a sliding catch in Left Field.  The game was called after five innings with Concord ahead by more than ten runs.  Concord now advances to play Albany in Albany on Friday July 6.  The game starts at 6 pm. Thanks for your support.  Mike Galindo

I'm Bobby Morales' dad. He had a blast catching the complete game and even throwing out a base stealer. He drove in the first run with a ground out and also walked twice. This team also had some first inning jitters giving up 3 runs without a good hit. The boys did come back however to score 14 unanswered runs and cruise to a 19 - 4 win. We're on our way!  Andrew
Gartner went the distance thru 5 innings. Here are a couple of pics.....Introductions and Andrew delivering another strike.

9 & 10 Year Old Division Team #1 - Monday, July 2nd - Concord American #1 - 5   Antioch East #1 - 7
Hi Skip,  I'm the proud father of Nick Rogers.  At today's game he went 3 for 3 and scored 2 runs. This picture shows his second hit. It was a triple to deep center field. One of, if not the best, hit of the game!  The Antioch East team scored 6 runs in the first inning. The Concord American All-Stars came back to make it a close game. The final score was 7 to 5. Connor Harrington pitched all 6 innings for Concord. He pitched out of one inning with the bases loaded with no outs! If not for the 6 run, error filled first, we'd have won 5 to 1! Blame it on the first game jitters! Next one we'll win for sure! GO CONCORD!  Hope you could use this picture on the website.  Best regards, Bob Rogers.

This group of All Stars have another chance to stay in the tournament.  They play again on Thursday, July 5th in Oakland at 6 PM.  If they win, they will remain in the running.  Good luck!
