The Mets put a complete game together with good pitching, timely hitting, and great defense to defeat the Cardinals 8-0. Brandon Peterson pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout, striking out five and walking no one.
The Mets committed only one error and received several outstanding plays in the field. Joel Dodenhoff made an outstanding over-the-shoulder tumbling catch on a deep drive off the bat of Aaron Thatcher to left field. Zachary Foy turned in a nice double play on a ground ball up the middle, stepping on second, and throwing to his nephew Andrew Robles at first to end the ballgame.
Michael Kelly drove in the games' first two runs on a triple to right-center and scored on a fielder's choice by Zach Foy.Ricky Montoya followed with a triple and scored on a single by Dodenhoff.
The Mets added two more in the fourth on walks to Daniel Lopez and Weston Peters-Ring and a double by Peterson. Montoya hit his second triple of the game and scored on a single by Lopez.
Daniel Golden doubled and Alex Cummings singled for the
Cards.
