The Mets and Yankees engaged in a classic ballgame that had just a little bit of everything. Alex Bates and Brandon Peterson were locked in a pitcher's duel early until the Mets broke the ice in the bottom of the third with a double by Peterson, a triple by Michael Kelly, ,an RBI double by Zach Foy, and a clutch two-out RBI single by Ricky Montoya. In the fourth, Christian Destefano doubled home Joel Dodenhoff with Bates getting injured on the play at third base. A pitching change occurred, and the Mets scored three more times on an RBI single by Peterson and another two-out two RBI single by Montoya.
But the Yankees scored twice in the fifth on a leadoff
triple by Kamron Fragoso, an RBI single by James Jarrett and an RBI double by
Ammiel Ocampo. Foy came on to pitch the sixth as the Yankees began a fierce
rally. The Yanks scored four times on a double by Fragoso, a single by Jarrett,
and a single by Ocampo. With the tying run at second and the go ahead run at
first, Foy was able to get a groundout to shortstop Dodenhoff to end the
ballgame.
