The Mets completed a long day with a doubleheader sweep by defeating the Cardinals 7-6 in seven innings. Zachary Foy and Elijah Bryan pitched well early in a seesaw scoring battle. The Mets scored twice in the top of the first on a two run double by Ricky Montoya. The Cards came back with three in the bottom of the second on a two run triple by Bradley Bologna and a single by Russell Mundy.
The Mets tied it in the third after a walk to Weston Peters-Ring and an RBI single by Foy. The Cards came back to retake the lead 4-3 after a single to Jack Brown, single by Mundy, and an RBI single by Daniel Golden. The Mets took the lead again in the top of the fifth on a leadoff single by Brandon Peterson, a walk to Michael Kelly and a big two out single by Joel Dodenhoff.
But the Cardinals came right back to tie it after a double to Aaron Thatcher and a triple by Jack Brown. In the top of the sixth, with one out, Daniel Lopez came up with a huge triple to right field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Peterson to give the Mets a 6-5 lead entering the bottom of the sixth.
The Cardinals started a rally on a double by Mundy, and tied it with a double by Golden. After intentional walks to Joey Fishbaugh and Kevin Kennedy to load the bases, Thatcher hit a screaming line drive to center where Peters-Ring made a great lunging catch to help send the game to extra innings for the Mets.
In the top of the seventh, the Mets received three walks
and scored the go ahead run a clutch, two out single by Will Bonnington. Montoya
closed the game out with a 1-2-3 seventh to earn the pitching victory in a very
spirited ballgame!
