The Mets and Rangers locked into an early pitcher's duel with Logan Bangert and Will Bonnington pitching to a Rangers' 2-1 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth. After a leadoff single by Christian Destefano and a walk to Bonnington, the Rangers got two quick outs before Michael Kelly hit a triple to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. Brandon Peterson followed with a single to score Kelly, and scored after a solen base and a single by Joel Dodenhoff. This brought Zach Foy to the plate and he drove a 1-2 pitch over the center field fence for a monster two run homer, giving the Mets a 7-2 lead.
But, the Rangers wouldn't give up. They came back to score four times in the fifth on run scoring doubles by Hunter Lockhart, Kevin Koenig, and Nick Arnold to make it 7-6. The Mets answered with two more on a double by Destefano and an inside the park home run by Ricky Montoya down the right field line.
The Rangers rallied in the sixth on three walks and
scoring once, but Destefano was able to get a strikeout and a groundout to end
the game and save the win for Bonnington. Also getting hits for the Mets were
Weston Peters-Ring, a triple, and Foy a double. For the Rangers, James Gonzalves
singled, Brandon Goodrich singled and scored twice, and Jose Maravillo singled.
